A will is a document that leaves instructions about what to do with all your possessions, money, investments and land upon your death. It’s a very important and fairly simple process that can save your family time and money; not to mention give you piece of mind.

Notarizing your will is mandatory as it prevents any forgers, identity thieves or exploiters from obtaining everything you own. By getting your will notarized you are ensuing that everything written down on the will is distributed accordingly and that your loved ones all receive what was written down for them.

Before getting a will notarized you must ensure that it’s valid, every valid will should include the following: a typed or handwritten will, the signature of the will writer along with the date it was signed and two witnesses and finally the signatures of those two witnesses that must also be dated.

The witnesses of the will cant just be random people, they need to receive no benefit from the will, sign in the presence of the person who wrote the will and be at least eighteen years old. Only once all of these prerequisites have bee met can the will be notarized.

When completing the process of notarizing a will certain conditions must be met and very strict guidelines must be followed. First off the will must be final and it must be complete to the standards that all wills are held to. After the notary public
ensures that’s the case the process can begin.

The first step is to identify the signer; it must be the same person requesting a notary. The person must provide a current document issued by the federal government. Using this document the notary will ensure that both the physical description along with the photograph match the signer as well as the signature in the document must match the one in the will.

Once the signer has been identified the notary public must ensure that the signer completely understands the document and all of its conditions. The notary must then make sure that the signer is in a completely normal condition and is not being pressured into signing.

The third step is to go over the document making sure everything is properly completed and filled out so that no complications occur when the will is being used. Finally once the notary public is convinced that all conditions have been met and all steps have been taken they complete the notarization.
